With our headquarters in Boston, MA, we are growing and expanding our team which located in 14 different countries!The Director, Scientific Program Management will play a vital role in advancing Velsera's mission to improve human health globally through multi-omics and insights. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Science Strategy, the Director, Scientific Program Management will be responsible for developing and driving strategies that support Velsera's current clients and shape future growth. The Director is responsible for creating strategic alignment within Science and across other teams including Commercial, Product, Engineering, Corp Dev, and Operations. The Director will lead a multi-disciplinary team of managers, primarily focused on Scientific Programs Management. The Director will be a key member of the Science Leadership Team.The Scientific Program Management team will lead large Scientific Programs within Velsera's portfolio and is critical to ensuring the success of consortium-based initiatives by building and maintaining strategic relationships with funders and enabling the fulfillment of a wide range of contractual obligations. Recent examples of programs include the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Research Data Commons for which we provide the Cancer Genomics Cloud and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's BioData Catalyst.Fundamentally, the Director will be an empathetic, strong communicator who excels at organizing large, complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and external collaborators. The Director will be skilled at problem solving, operations, and strategy. They will need to drive alignment internally, understand ambiguous and potentially competing priorities, and clearly articulate the business value and impact of their team's activities. They will integrate goals and project milestones from multiple initiatives across the company and community, define and clearly communicate priorities, and ensure the products we build make research easier and faster for the scientific communities we serve.What will you do?

  • Drive strategic alignment around current work and new opportunities; closely collaborating with Product, Commercial, and Corp Dev
  • Engage with the community and within Science to understand areas for growth to enable constructing, articulating, and leading strategic initiatives
  • Partner with Operations to support budgeting, invoicing, resource allocation, hiring plans, and revenue forecasting
  • Design and lead Science Campaigns that blend paid product development and Science team personnel to drive Science across Velsera and deliver business value
  • Develop, lead, retain, and recruit (as needed) a team of primarily Scientific Program Management personnel that deliver value both within Scientific Programs and across Science
  • Deliver compelling presentations representing Velsera to external and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and articulate strategy for proposals as well as lead and coordinate delivering responses to funders
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders (technical staff to executives) by communicating timelines, status, requirements, coordination, and all other project-related issues
  • Serve as a key stakeholder within the hiring and onboarding process across ScienceWhat do you bring to the table?
    • PhD in science or engineering and/or experience in a software development environment
    • Knowledge in genomics, clinical trials, and/or biomedical data analysis
    • Program management experience (7+ years) in a relevant organization or multidisciplinary environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication across multi-disciplinary teams
    • Bias towards problem solving and action
    • Strong organization and analytic skills; can design metrics for quantitative analysis
    • Gives feedback effectively and learns from feedback received
    • Success working within teams, jointly prioritizing and making decisions to ensure alignment across projects and to overall corporate strategy
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities. You are able to command the room, zoom, or working group. You are a good, empathetic listener
