Job Description Position Mission The Process Engineer coordinates activities of the Operations group to ensure the most efficient, effective, and safe manufacture of quality products. Key Areas of Responsibility/Essential Functions --- Achieve proficiency with key manufacturing unit operations via training with operators and engineers. --- Manage initiatives under the guidance of the Operations Manager. --- Troubleshoot plant process issues working directly with technicians/operators. --- Develops process and procedure documentation and operator training materials. --- Help develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives. --- Ensure communication and deployment of management of change procedures. --- Support new product and process commercialization. --- Measure product quality, process capability, and yield utilizing statistical process control techniques. --- Improve process efficiencies including first pass quality, productivity, and safety. --- Provide plant support by coordinating and following new products with R&D from inception through product commercialization and full production hand off to operations. --- Investigate downtime causes and complete appropriate recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. --- Maintain and foster collaborative efforts between R&D, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Quality teams to identify, establish, and share best practices. --- Work closely with Engineering to ensure appropriate safety, health and environmental factors are considered and adhered to throughout all aspects of the product development to commercialization process. --- Perform other duties as requested or required. Reporting Relationships Individual Contributor Reports to (position): Operations Manager Working Supervisor Manager (hire/fire/discipline authority for 2 employees) Formal Education / Certification Requirements- Essential Requirements --- Four-year college degree in a technical discipline (Chemical Engineering preferred) --- Ability to be reached by phone during off shift hours in case of scheduling or emergency need. --- Must understand heat transfer, fluid flow, pumping, piping, and instrumentation. --- Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills. --- Demonstrated excellent computer skills. Preferred: --- Able to obtain TWIC certification. Job-Related Experience/ Skills/ Competencies --- Read P&ID---s and schematics. --- Having previous experience with continuous chemical processing; within a high hazard environment is preferred. --- Hands on with the ability to build rapport with operating, analytical, and maintenance technicians is extremely important. --- Ability to handle multiple projects at one time. --- GMP knowledge preferred --- Programing experience preferred Competencies --- Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions. --- Championing Continuous Improvement and Executing for Results --- Teamwork and Collaboration --- Ability to work with others through collaboration of people to achieve business outcome. --- Continuous Learning --- Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision making. --- In-Depth Problem Solving and Analysis ---The aptitude to assess a situation and create appropriate possible solutions --- Coaching and Developing Others --- Inspires others, leads, mentors, provides direction and a positive role model. Does not condone bad behavior in others or themselves. --- Interpersonal Communication, Written Communication and Presentation Skills Travel Requirements Not required Physical Requirements / Working Conditions --- Day to day work is in a production environment. --- Tasks may at times be performed with exposure to all weather conditions. --- Require the usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and may take place in confined spaces. --- Duties involve frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects up to 65lbs. --- Must be able to frequently climb ladders to access mission critical operating equipment and obtain product samples. Some towers are over 100 feet tall. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Tasks may take place in both extreme cold and extreme hot work environments. Periodic potential exposures to hazardous chemicals/conditions exist in this position and training is mandatory. The work schedule may periodically rotate and may include duties on holidays and weekends. Uniforms are provided and as well as footwear allowance.
