knowledge.Job DescriptionOBJECTIVES We are looking for someone who
will share our excitement about science, contribute to our

of Histology, you will join the growing Translational Sciences team
within the Rare Diseases Drug Discovery Unit (RD DDU), reporting to
the Head of Translational Sciences Rare Diseases DDU. You will lead
a team of dedicated scientists responsible for delivery of
histopharmacological and histopathology data to support drug
discovery in rare metabolic and hematologic diseases. You will be
an essential member of the RD DDU leadership team and will manage
the histology laboratory, biomarker development, mechanistic
investigations, and digital imaging applications. This exciting
role is suited for someone with successful management experience
and outstanding hands-on skills in all aspects of routine histology
and in developing multiplexing IF, IHC, and ISH biomarker assays,
microscopy, image analysis, data interpretation, and study report
preparation. You will also oversee the design and implementation of
PK/PD/efficacy assessments to support project advancement,
participate in interdisciplinary project teams, and lead
collaborations.ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide scientific and technical leadership to a team of 5
scientists and histology technologists to ensure delivery of
high-quality data
- Be a primary point of contact for all aspects of histology
needs of the RD DDU to support advancement of projects from
discovery to early development
- Maintain and optimize the interface of the histopharmacology
team with the project teams to create timelines to meet project
deadlines
- Develop strategies for the assessment and interpretation of
morphologic changes and PK/PD/efficacy biomarker data from animal
studies to determine the mechanism of action (MoA) and establish
proof of concept (PoC) to support drug discovery and early
development.
- Guide development of novel PK/PD/efficacy biomarkers and
histopathologic methods
- Perform integrative gross and microscopic primary reads,
interpret observations, and determine the significance of
histopharmacology data from MoA and PoC studies in animal models of
disease
- Author and review study reports and regulatory documents
- Communicate interpretation and effect of histopharmacology data
to a broad audience in study reports, regulatory documents, and
project team meetings
- Work in an environment spanning discovery and development and
work with a variety of stakeholders, including Discovery Biology,
Global Gene Therapy, Drug Safety, DMPK and others
- Maintain a high level of scientific expertise through
literature reviews, congresses and seminar attendances, and
networking with essential opinion leader
- Lead efforts to integrate the histopharmacology team in the
organization-wide platforms, such as sample biorepositories, data
management systems, and image analysis platforms
- Initiate and maintain collaborative interactions with other
translational and histology teams across the organizationEDUCATION,
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- PhD or an equivalent degree in histology or related disciplines
with 7+ years of experience in a relevant industry or academic role
in histology research (or MS with 13+ years of experience, BS with
15+ years of experience)
- 5 years of industry experience
- 5 years of managerial experience
- Expertise in histology, light/fluorescence microscopy, confocal
microscopy, and image analysis is required
- Experience in critically evaluating disease relevant animal
models and translatable biomarkers to support drug discovery
- Expertise in gene and cell therapy for rare lysosomal storage
disorders and other inborn errors of metabolism is a plusColorado
