Job Purpose
In this critical role you will support National Grid's aspiration as a world leader in the electricity transmission business, the company in endeavoring in a wide-scale digital substation transformation to reduce costs, increase reliability, reduce maintenance, and expedite construction. Over a two to three-year period, the digital substation transformation group will be creating the foundation for the future electrical substation. The group is responsible to ensure an efficient and fast-paced large-scale adoption of digital substation equipment, with a goal of over 100 substation projects and around $550 million of capital expenditure in the next 10 years throughout New England and New York service territories.

The digital delivery program specialist will support the development and management of digital substation program strategy. The strategy will be developed based on the Company's digital substation vision. The digital delivery program specialist will develop and track key metrics to meet National Grid's digital substation goals.

Key Accountabilities
You will have the exciting opportunities to:

  • Support the development of the IEC 61850 and Substation Online Monitoring program strategy based on the Company's digital substation transformation vision.
  • Support the identification and tracking of capital projects from conception through completion; coordination with asset management and planning groups, option solutions engineering, engineering/design, project management, and operations groups.
  • Ensure alignment, coordination, and communication between the existing IEC 61850 and substation standards engineering group, operations, IT/OT/Security, procurement, and project delivery/management.
  • Coordinate the delivery of IEC 61850 or Substation Asset Monitoring specific training and communication based on regional, departmental, or project needs.
  • Identify and track key prerequisites required to meet our digital substation scaling goals. These requirements may include standard and procedures, contracting mechanisms, and resource strategy.
  • Maintain a record of program risks and issues. The program manager will need to drive risk and issue resolution.
    Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
    • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. both external and internal).
    • Strong skills in: negotiations, presentation, program management, interpersonal & written communication, and critical analysis.
    • Exhibit high personal standards of commitment and integrity.
      • Bachelor's degree, preferably in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience.
      • Certified Project Management Professional preferred.
      • Experience with the development of IEC 61850 and Substation Online Monitoring program strategy strongly preferred.
      • Experience with successful delivery of complex projects and possess team leadership skills.
      • A high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
      • Knowledge of power system operations, electrical engineering, engineering economics, and familiarity with legal, purchasing, and utility accounting regulations is preferred.
      • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints. Bottom-line oriented, budget-conscious, metric/measurement driven.
      • Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.

        $99,000 - $130,000 a year

        This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
