Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible, professional position working under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Supervisor. Providing health services in the School Health Program. All service performed for the student will be with the overall objectives of increasing student's knowledge of preventive health care, improve decisions about health matters, detect signs of emotional and social stress and helping students develop health promoting behaviors. Will act as team leaders for the health support aides in her schools. Complies with rules and regulations set forth in the employee handbook. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural".

Develop ongoing procedures for parental consent for health services. Provide health/ medical diagnostic assessments such as child health services, screening for vision, hearing, physical development (BMI), scoliosis, Medicaid screenings, communicable disease assessments and follow-up and health assessments to identify medical problems. Provide record review. Transport client's identifiable information in a secure locked bag for work purposes only, in accordance with all HIPAA guidelines. Employee May travel to other schools to provide services.

Provide classroom education of health-related topics, counsel students about high-risk behavior, i.e.: early sexual activity and potential negative consequences, taking the lead in developing school based, family based and community-based health education and health promotion activities. Participates in faculty meetings, PTSO and student advisory boards and activities. Acts as the health advisor and consultant in all health matters. Assists principals, teachers, counselors, and other agencies in other family related services.

Attending in-services, completion of required paper/computer work, i.e.: Leave and attendance forms, HMS, 100% of EAR's shall be completed (with 97% completed within a 7-day time span), travel and all medical records documented. Work with other school health team members to review, update, and evaluate services as they are related to the school health plan. Will be available to work during emergencies such as, providing services at the special needs shelter.

  • Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in providing nursing care.
  • Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in providing nursing care.

  • Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions.
  • Ability to observe patients' symptoms and reactions to treatment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
    Qualifications:

    Minimum - Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27 and one year of experience in providing practical nursing services.

    Preferred - Current BLS Certification.
