The Manager Facility Design & Realization is part of the Central Fulfillment Channel team, and their role is to be the subject matter expert on realizing optimal facility layout and design, and bringing new facility proposals all the way from inception to investment proposal.

This role will have a background and experience in industrial engineering, with experience and expertise on optimal design and layout for fulfillment facilities. This includes being familiar with PDL's portfolio of different fulfillment models (e.g. warerooms, dark stores, micro fulfillment centers), understanding best practices out of each of those models, and being able to advise business stakeholders at ADUSA's brands on most optimal layout.

Designs will need to lead to facilities than can pass investment hurdles (positive Net Present Value and Return on Capital meeting financial requirements), which means they need to be optimized to achieve the highest possible productivity, balanced with maximum sales capacity and utilization of space, allowing for the optimal performance from a P&L perspective.

This includes being able to provide direction on proposed real estate assets to understand whether they are viable and realistic as a potential fulfillment location, as well as functioning as the primary point of contact for a multitude of stakeholders (brand operators, leadership, RBS store development/construction, Workplace Safety, Food Safety, etc.) to work through the detailed architectural & engineering phase, addressing any modifications needing to be made and determine the best solution for those modifications, etc.

Once design is finalized, this role will also help shepherd the proposed facility through the realization process, with the goal of acquiring an approved investment proposal. To that end, they will work with counterparts within Finance and Investment Planning, to be their single point of contact in collecting inputs required to build an investment proposal. This includes determining the attainable productivity through activity-based cost modeling, which this function would own, but also gathering inputs from other sources, e.g. expected sales volume from the Network Strategy team, and expected hiring, training and learning curves from the brand operations team.

Requirements Essential Functions

* Assess operational viability of proposed real estate assets by evaluating appliccability and creating high-level design approaches * Participate in detail-level facility design of proposed new locations or remodels of existing locations, often providing the first sketch/drawing as starting point for architectural and/or engineering resources * Recommend optimization opportunities for existing operations on how they could adjust use of their space to achieve more optimal productivity results * Partnering with key stakeholders in finance and field operations to develop a standardized methodology for site KPI development and evaluation * Translating facility designs to operational and financial KPIs that will serve as key inputs for investment proposals * Validate facilities are meeting required KPIs per design, identifying value engineering opportunities within design and implementation/realization process * Act as single point of contact for any design and/or realization related questions on new facilities * Evaluate existing and new designs, establish learnings and best practices for future use * Maintain an up-to-date library of best-practices and design-principles for each fulfillment model in PDL's portfolio, including activity-based costing models for all * Works cross functionally to ensure design principles and details are being applied by all workstreams involved * Develop standardized build and delivery process for facility design and implementation to increase site speed to market

Knowledge

* Financial understanding of retail P&Ls * Industrial engineering knowledge * Strong comprehension of Excel and Excel models * Understanding of e-commerce facility design for micro and macro sites

Skills

* Project management * Proficiency with financial and investment planning KPIs * Experience and affinity with activity-based cost modeling * Basic knowledge of AutoCAD

Education

Bachelor's degree, preferably in industrial engineering

Experience

* 5+ years of relevant experience in facility design and/or optimization * Experience with and an understanding of grocery retail e-commerce processes
