BROCKTON NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH CENTER
In order to prevent a direct threat to the safety and health of our patients and staff, effective August 1, 2021, new hires are required to have had at least the first dose of a COVID vaccine prior to their start, with the exception of those who have documented medical or religious exemptions. New hires who are not yet vaccinated can arrange to have the vaccine on site.

Title: Optician

Supervisor: Manager Optical Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

MA Licensed Optician who assists optical manager with frame and lens selection, fitting, dispensing, adjustments and basic repairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform all aspects of the optical services: including eyeglass selection, fitting, selling, dispensing, adjusting and basic repair.

2. Assist manager in maintaining accurate frame, lens & optical supplies inventory and financial records.

3. Assist in taking a formal inventory at least twice per year.

4. Participate, if capable, with in-center lens edging and tinting services.

5. Enter data in to POS data base system.

6. Follow all Brockton Neighborhood Health Center protocols and regulations.

7. Provide a friendly and professional environment within Optical for all the health center patients.

8. Assist Optical Manager with training of staff Optician Apprentice(s)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Optician Licensed in Massachusetts.
Requires an active commitment to excellence in patient care, a desire to improve wellness of our community, an appreciation for community needs, a culturally competent individual, and someone who is excited about the opportunity to build the eye service.
Familiarity with MA insurance billing is helpful.
Bilingual Preferred.

Possesses the ability to act independently and is willing to make decisions utilizing good judgment.

Has the ability to visualize and anticipate new problems and to be part of the problem solving process.

Possesses the ability to maintain a stable presence under stress due to pressure of the work environment.

Maintains clinical competence through ongoing clinical education and training.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a busy community health center in an urban neighborhood. Long hours are frequently required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The individual must be in good health of mind and body with the physical dexterity and vision suitable to accomplish the job duties outlined above. Knowledge of proper patient transfer assistance is also required and the ability to lift as much as 50 pounds may be necessary.
