Job Description:
Abveris (now a part of Twist Bioscience) is Boston's premier
antibody discovery company providing contract research services to
the biopharma industry. Abveris applies advanced immunization
methods combined with B cell screening and hybridoma-based antibody
discovery technologies to provide comprehensive reagent and
therapeutic antibody discovery services. Abveris is developing the
next generation of biologics, cell therapies, vaccines, and
diagnostics in partnership with global leaders in biopharma.
Abveris is seeking a Scientist to join our growing antibody
characterization team. Using the state-of-the art technologies and
workflows, this Scientist would simultaneously work on multiple
custom antibody discovery projects and ensure that project-specific
deliverables are met. The primary responsibility would be
performing high throughput immunoassays such as ELISA, SPR, BLI to
characterize novel antibodies generated for different antibody
discovery projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Determine binding kinetics, affinity and epitope binning of
antibodies using SPR and BLI biosensors
- Independently design, execute and troubleshoot immunoassays,
analyze data, and present findings during departmental meetings
- Concurrently execute multiple antibody discovery projects
requiring wet lab activities, data analysis, and report generation
to our partners
- Develop and standardize novel assays and assist with the
integration of automation to streamline antibody discovery and
characterization processes
- Support sample handling along with inventory tracking and
management
- Record and communicate experimental details, draft reports, and
deliver data with a high level of integrity and ethics
- Ensure that all the instruments are in optimal operating
condition at all times
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- A PhD in a scientific discipline such as Biology, Biochemistry,
Biomedical Engineering or related field is required
- 0-3 years of solid hands-on experience using diverse biophysical
techniques such as SPR (Biacore, SPR24/32, Carterra LSA), BLI
(Octet, Gator) and/or other biosensors to characterize biomolecular
interactions is required
- At least 2-3 years of experience with characterizing proteins and
antibodies in the context of drug discovery and/or protein
engineering is required
- A hands-on experience in protein chemistry such as protein
analytics (SDS-PAGE, Western-blot, CE) and protein purification
(HPLC, FPLC, IEX, SEC) is required
- A broad knowledge and understanding of protein structure and
biophysical characterization of proteins is preferred
- Experience with other techniques such as ITC, MSD, MST, flow
cytometry is preferred
- Self-motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented and ability to
work productively in a fast-paced work environment
- Individual contributor but also collaborates with multiple teams
across different departments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
